Find a Therapist

So you've decided to check out this whole couples therapy thing. What now? These resources might help you locate the right therapist for you.
  • In the Lancaster, PA area: Learn more about Elizabeth Pearce, Psy.D. or contact Elizabeth for a consultation appointment.

  • Find a Marriage and Family Therapist: Therapist Locator Directory
A directory provided by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. A special certification exam is required to become an MFT; these licensed therapists also have extensive training and experience with couples and families.

  • Christian Care Network: Find a Counselor
A directory provided by the American Association of Christian Counselors. These folks don't necessarily specialize in marriages, but would provide distinctively Christian services.

You can also simply turn to your local yellow pages, and search under "Psychotherapists", "Mental Health", "Counseling", or related terms.

Some helpful guidelines for choosing a couples therapist can be found here, at iVillage. As a couples therapist myself, I give this list my stamp of approval. It may not be totally exhaustive, but it provides a balanced perspective and helpful starting point for evaluating your therapist.
